A TEENAGER was in hospital last night after breaking his neck at a BMX cycle track.
Gavin Wilson, 14, suffered serious injuries when he fell from his mountain bike after riding over a jump at St Nicholas Fields park, Tang Hall, York.
He was taken to York District Hospital, but later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary.
He has undergone an operation in which surgeons straightened his neck and inserted metal plates.
Liz Watson, headteacher of Burnholme Community College, where Gavin is a pupil, said: "All the staff and children were upset when they heard about the accident. We were very relieved when we heard the operation was successful.
"Lots of the children are writing cards to send him messages of goodwill."
