MUSEUM bosses called in the professionals yesterday to help them prepare for the finale of an airborne extravaganza.
The Yorkshire Air Museum plans to stage a re-enactment of D-Day airborne action.
Soldiers from 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers, based in Ripon, North Yorkshire, were drafted in to help assemble the set at the museum, at Elvington, York.
A replica Waco Hadrian glider - originally built for the Spielberg blockbuster Saving Private Ryan - is being mounted at an angle, showing how hazardous airborne operations were during the Normandy offensive, during the Second World War.
On Sunday, July 8, it will be used in a mock battle, with Allied airborne troops engaging German soldiers and tanks.
The display will the finale of one of the biggest events of its kind undertaken by the museum. It will include a display by the RAF's Red Arrows, the Red Devils parachute team, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Tickets will be £5 for adults and £4 concessions
