TROUBLED shipbuilder Cammell Laird is to cut another 146 jobs as efforts continue to find buyers for its yards, it was announced yesterday.

Receiver PricewaterhouseCoopers said there would be 99 redundancies on Tyneside, 43 at Birkenhead, and four in technical services, in London, by the end of the week.

But there was more encouraging news for workers when the receiver said it was hopeful of attracting offers from management buyout teams for the Birkenhead and Tyneside yards.

A bid by a former manager for the yard on Teesside was accepted earlier this month.

Fewer employees were needed to complete the work left at the yards, the receiver said.
