IN the run-up to St Patrick's Church's 100th birthday, on July 25, the community will be invited to celebrate at masses, concerts and a flower festival.
Originally designed to serve Catholics in the community of Cannon Street, Middlesbrough, the church became part of the larger town centre parish of Sacred Heart and St Patrick when people moved away.
The Bishop of Middlesbrough, the Right Reverend John Crowley, said: "'For everything so far thank you, for everything to come, yes' is a good prayer to use at this moment of great joy as we celebrate the centenary of St Patrick's Church."
The flower festival takes its title from the hymn Colours of Day and was the idea of parishioner Pam Miller. It will feature the work of Norton Flower Club and runs from tomorrow until next Tuesday.
The centenary celebrations begin at 7pm, on Friday, with a special mass followed by a preview evening.
Throughout the weekend, the church will be open daily, from 10am, for the public to view flowers and artwork by pupils from Sacred Heart Primary School.
On Sunday, the Appollo Male Voice Choir will give a concert at St Patrick's Church, and the celebrations will end with a festival mass led by Bishop Crowley, to which former priests and parishioners have been invited.
