A DALES volunteer agency is looking for drivers to help elderly people stranded without medication.
A new scheme has been launched to take prescriptions to elderly and house-bound people in Frosterley, Weardale, who previously collected their medication from the village Co-op store.
On June 1 the service was abolished due to a review of guidelines covering prescription services and now South Durham and Weardale Community Health Council and volunteer bureau for Wear Valley and Teesdale, 2D, have come up with a door-to-door delivery service, made up of drivers who collect medicine from the nearest pharmacy in Stanhope.
The scheme has been initially funded by £1,000 from Durham County Council and the drivers' expenses will be paid.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (Rsvp) will work with the participants.
Michele Armstrong, from 2D said: "It would help if the volunteers live near Frosterley, but it depends if people are willing to travel. This scheme is a success because people are doing something in their locality."
