JAZZ bands and floats added to the carnival atmosphere on the streets of Willington at the weekend.
But the procession was marred because by not being allowed along the main street, said organiser Christina Jackson.
Mrs Jackson, a member of the Willington Community Partnership, which helped organise Saturday's event said despite restrictions the day was a success.
She said: "It was nice to see so many people there but I feel we would have had more support if we had been able to go down the main street.''
Mrs Jackson said it was due to traffic calming problems that the carnival had to wipe the main street from its route.
Instead it travelled from Willington Workingmen's Club through the Hall Lane Estate to the town's football ground.
Stacey Lee, 17, was queen for the day and was joined by attendant Amy Pearson and Prince and Princess, Andrew Hodgson and Katie Hawkins.
Mrs Jackson said that a carnival committee would be formed to organise next year's event and the fight would continue to get the right to parade through the main street.
