A FORMER bricklayer has decided to down tools in order to build a better future for charities.
Rhett St James, from Darlington, has launched a communications company which he says will give customers the chance to help their favourite charities, while making cheaper phone calls.
The 22-year-old has joined forces with his friend and business partner, the Reverend Anthony Kelton, of Elim Church in Bishop Auckland.
Mr St James decided to set up his business, RSJ Communications, after an accident on a building site.
After raising money for local schools and charities through a painting venture and sponsored events, he decided he would try to combine a job with helping good causes.
He said: "I was feeling sorry for myself after my accident when I saw a young boy in a wheelchair, and I thought that I wasn't really in a bad situation at all. I wanted to do something to help others, so I decided to combine a way of giving to charity while earning a living.
"To do this I will give 25 per cent of people's phone bills directly to their chosen charity, which means cheaper calls, and more support for charities."
