A MAN appeared in court yesterday accused of carrying out a serious assault on a 62-year-old man in his own home.
Mark Anthony Gladstone, 32, is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, in the incident at Galloway Road, Peterlee, County Durham, on Tuesday.
Peterlee magistrates adjourned the hearing for a week and Mr Gladstone, also of Galloway Road, was remanded in custody.
The injured man, a widowed father-of-four, was initially believed to be suffering a broken nose but was transferred to intensive care after internal bleeding was discovered.
Last night, he remained seriously ill in the University Hospital of Hartlepool.
