THE second in a chain of Chinese buffet restaurants has opened its doors in Durham.
Lau's Buffet King, which has a branch in Newcastle's Chinatown, has taken over three former shops in North Road.
As well as the 250-seater restaurant, which opened for business yesterday, there will be a take-out service and a Chinese supermarket.
The firm, run by Alec and Kit Lau, is opening new branches in Sunderland and Manchester in the near future, and has plans to open in Leeds, Sheffield and Scotland.
The Durham branch has 40 staff.
Kit Lau said: "We thought Durham was an excellent location and we are in a very good spot which should attract local people, students and visitors."
Operations manager Tom Hall said: "The Chinese grocery and supermarket will be the first one in Durham."
The restaurant was opened by Century Radio DJ Paul "Goffy" Gough.
