Carmel Technology College's football teams have finished top of the class in the football stakes. The Darlington college has enjoyed another incredible season with success spreading throughout several teams while some talented individuals have made their mark.

The boys Year Seven (Under-12s) side won the Darlington Wagon Wheels five-a-side tournament while their female counterparts were runners-up. Also in the trophy cabinet is the Under-12s knock-out cup, which they secured with a 2-1 win over Hummersknott in the final.

The Under-14 side from Year Nine overcame the challenge of Branksome School to win a town seven-a-side tournament.

Performing even better were the the Year Ten team who swept the board. Winning all but one of their games and drawing the other, the Under-15s completed a league and cup double.

The Year Eight side came close to glory on two fronts, but ultimately finished as bridesmaids on each occasion.

They were league runners-up and couldn't manage to go any further than the semi-finals of the cup.

Inevitably, the efforts of the teams has seen individual recognition follow because in different age groups, several players have been selected for the town's representative team.

Nick Lyons has clearly impressed as the 14-year-old is in the reckoning for the England Schools team having excelled in the regional trials.

A quartet from the Year Nine side were picked to play for Darlington's town team. Thomas Craddock, Ian Grey, Daniel McMaster and Dave Hardisty were the talented foursome.

Going one better were the Year Eight side who provided the town's side with five players: Ryan Tinkler, Adam Grieve, Andrew McElvaney, David Webster and Anthony Smyth.

But, perhaps a sign of their dominance, is the all-conquering Year Ten team who overshadowed other age groups with eight players regularly playing for the town team.

The quintet were Lyons, Christopher Palmer, John Clegg, Carl Hall, Adam Gilroy, Andrew Martin, Jamie Bowman and Tommy Wright.

Teacher Simon Hannaford is impressed with his pupils' progress, saying: "I feel the pupils from Carmel should be very proud of what they have achieved this season and with the continued hard work they will only get better and better which is exciting for the future."
