A campaign is to be launched aimed at raising awareness that domestic violence can seriously damage women and children's health.
The campaign, by Redcar and Cleveland Domestic Violence Forum, has been organised in conjunction with the Women's Aid Federation of England and is aimed at health professionals and the public, because it claims one woman is killed every three days by a violent partner or ex-partner.
The forum says that domestic abuse is a frequent cause of significant injury, mental health difficulties and other chronic health problems among women.
It is also associated with increased rates of miscarriage, low birth weight, premature birth, foetal injury and foetal death.
The campaign starts on Monday, and an awareness-raising day takes place at Sunnyfield House, Westgate, Guisborough, from 10am until 4pm.
