YOUNG athletes showed off their prowess yesterday in a competitive sporting event.
Children from Reid Street Primary School, Darlington, showed their Olympian spirit in events including the egg-and-spoon race, wheelbarrow race, sprints, and football dribbling.
A total of 350 children took part in the sports day, and each event carried points for those finishing in first, second and third places.
Competitors were divided into year groups, with points awarded for best behaved children, as well as the winners.
Physical education coordinator Helen Thorogood said: "We don't have winners for each race, but we have winners in each team and year group, and this year the competition has been really fierce. The weather was great and all the children get really excited and worked up about the events, so it made for a great day."
The winners from each year group were:
Year Six: Mark Taylor, Siobhan Meredith, Christine Lumb, Darren Comer, Daniel Temple.
Year Five: Victoria Snowball, Louis Moore, Kerry Denham, Arran Davison.
Year Four: Russell Haithwaite, Lottie Lewis, Joseph Robinson, Abbie Chandler.
Year Three: Luke Walker, Katie Jinks, Matthew James, Jade Mitchell, Alex Young.
Year Two: Ryan Rimmer, Rachel Mercer, Gemma Curnow, Michael Trenholme, Luke Inglis, Jake Hutton.
