MOST people objecting to Hartlepool's new local plan are only concerned about development on a handful of sites, according to a councillor.

The plan, which is due to be renewed, earmarks areas of the borough for future development and suggests places that should remain undeveloped.

It also distinguishes between areas suitable for domestic and industrial buildings.

Councillor Stan Kaiser, of Hartlepool Borough Council, is objecting to proposals in the new Hartlepool local plan to build houses at Tunstall Farm, West Park and near Hylton Road and Valley Drive.

The proposed housing developments make up just one proposal out of 180 in the whole plan, but according to Coun Kaiser some people have objected to the whole plan because they are against the building work.

He said: "Out of a total of 257 objections to the whole 180 policies by members of the public, 163 relate only to the Tunstall Farm proposal.

"This is 75 per cent of all objections and is very significant."

Coun Kaiser lives near to Tunstall Farm and is also objecting to the building proposals on personal grounds.

Hartlepool Borough Council's policy scrutiny forum will meet next week to discuss the objections to the plan and Coun Kaiser has asked it to reject the building proposal to save the green land at Tunstall Farm.
