TENANTS in Hartlepool are waiting less time to have vital repairs in their homes completed.
An appointment scheme has been introduced by the borough council's work team after consultation with residents.
Instead of reporting a job and simply waiting for a tradesman to turn up, residents can now request a morning or afternoon work slot.
A pilot scheme was started in north Hartlepool and has now been extended to the whole town. The initiative has cut waiting times for many jobs from six weeks to just two.
Appointments can be made for a variety of jobs, including lock repairs, resealing windows, and repairs to taps and waste pipes.
Technical manager John Gill said: "It is a major improvement for tenants to know exactly when a tradesman is going to call. We are looking to expand the service to increase the number and type of appointments."
