Ian Collinson, a well known North-East businessman and sporting enthusiast, has died of cancer, aged 66.
Mr Collinson, who lived at Ripon, North Yorkshire, helped his late father, Fred, establish the family-run business of Collinson shops in Ripon, Malton and Harrogate.
The first, in North Street, Ripon, opened in 1952 after Fred Collinson left his job at Hepworth's Tailors, in Ripon, to open a business in the city's North Street selling sportswear, toys and leather goods.
Following its success, a Malton store was opened in the early 1960s, specialising in leather goods.
A store in James Street, Harrogate, was opened in 1972, soon building a widespread reputation as a mecca for youngsters with its large range of toys.
A thanksgiving service for Mr Collinson, who leaves a widow June and son Paul, will be held at Ripon Cathedral on August 9, at 1.30pm, where the collection will be donated to local cancer charities.
Details about the memorial service are available from F Lowley and Son Ltd on (01765) 602294.
A funeral service and cremation is being held privately.
