FIFTY firefighters tackled a blaze at a foam factory for eight hours.
The alarm was raised after a thick plume of smoke was seen over the Smithers Oasis plant, on the Crowther industrial estate, in Washington, Tyne and Wear, just after midnight yesterday.
Large blocks of the factory's green, foam-like product used in floristry, measuring about five feet long and three feet thick, were set alight during the blaze.
Arson is suspected because the factory has been broken into several times in recent weeks.
The last crew left the scene shortly before 8am yesterday.
