SOME of the strongest men in the region will be flexing their muscles in a competition on Saturday next week.
The North-East Strongest Man contest, now in its tenth year, takes place at West Pelton Primary School, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham.
The event coincides with the school fete and all proceeds raised will go towards school funds.
The contest, which starts at 2pm, will include six events - the log lift, wheel flip, truck pull, the West Pelton stone walk, barrel hold and the back-to-back tug of war.
Past winners include Rob Dixon and Spennymoor's Stephen Brooks, who have both taken part in the World's Strongest Man competition.
Organiser Bob Daglish, who is also competing this year, said: "It is very entertaining and it will be a very good show this year, because the standard over the past ten years has improved so much it's unreal.
"The North-East has a strong base of athletes and I reckon the top six competitors here would be able to qualify for the final of Britain's Strongest Man."
