A VIRTUAL archive of the North-East's heritage is to be created, thanks to a £1.2m National Lottery boost.
Eight projects across the region were awarded cash from the New Opportunities Fund yesterday. The money will help create learning resources on the Internet, celebrating the region's history.
Images of York will be available across the world under a project called Sense of Place, by City of York Council.
Hartlepool Borough Libraries has been awarded £117,000 to document life surrounding the town's shipbuilding past.
Newcastle Libraries' project, Tyneside Life and Times, receives £88,710 to celebrate Tyneside since 1850.

Durham County Council, £142,000, digital archeology archive; Newcastle University, £340,000, digitised collection of architecture in North-East; Hartlepool Borough Libraries, £117,000; Newcastle Libraries and Information Services, £88,710; Gateshead Borough Council, £130,000, North-East's folk music heritage; Northumberland County Council, £47,100, digitised history of Nothumberland; Tyne and Wear Museums, £299,000, digitised catalogue of museum collections; and City of York Council, £129,000.
