A NATIONAL leukaemia charity launched a major fundraising event this week.
The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust has organised A Jog in the Park - a series of 5km and 10km jogs, runs and walks.
Gateshead International Stadium and Gosforth Park Racecourse will host some of the events, in August.
The Gosforth event is on Sunday, August 5 and the Gateshead one on Sunday, August 12.
The charity is calling on people to get involved with their nearest jog event to help raise the funds it needs to continue for its life-saving work.
Jog coordinator Steve Joyce said: "A Jog in the Park is such a simple event. Novice runners, and those who haven't run for years, will see the 5km route as an achievable challenge .
"Everyone who takes part in the jogs will be helping to save more lives."
It costs the charity £50 to test each volunteer joining the bone marrow register, and no Government or National Lottery money is received.
The Jog events are the latest in a long line of fundraising events from the charity. For more details on the event, call (01423) 879510.
