A TOWN'S older generation proved that you can stay active at any age during an event yesterday.
Crowds of people over 55 gathered in Darlington's Market Square for an information day organised by Darlington Better Government for Older People.
The Signpost event gave visitors the chance to find out more about the services available for the over-55s, and served as the launch of a month of activities run by Darlington Active Independent and Staying Young (Daisy).
The month-long event, supported by The Northern Echo, will give participants the chance to take part in a variety of competitions, including baking, embroidery, photography and flower arranging.
Jill Walton, of Daisy, said: "We have been really pleased with the turnout, because today was all about getting our message across and giving people the chance to find out what events are available to them."
There were also performances from Hurworth School's orchestra and members of the Darlington Get Everybody Motivated (Gem) scheme, which encourages older people to take up exercise.
