A NATUROPATH from the region is warning people to take extra care when choosing their sun protection creams.
Recent reports have highlighted that designer label sunscreen products have no more benefits than the cheaper supermarket and own- brand ranges.
But according to Kenneth Green, a naturopath in Redcar, Cleveland, the protective screens in all sunscreen products could cause more misery than the sun for people with sensitive skin, because they contain chemicals that produce allergic reactions on the skin.
Mr Green said that people with sensitive skin should be careful of all sun lotions that include chemicals such as nitrosamines, formaldehyde, DMDM hydantoin, quaternium 15, methylchloroisothiazolinone and propylene glycol.
He says that alternative sunscreens that contain octocrylene and octyl methoxycinnamate, and natural ingredients such as aloe vera, and vitamins A, C and E can help repair damaged skin and reduce wrinkle formation.
Mr Green said: "I know it reads like a chemistry lesson, but I'd rather be safe than sorry."
