THREE thousand youngsters will descend on the Riverside at Chester-le-Street today for an athletics festival.
The event, which is backed by schools service provider Chartwells, is one of three major sports festivals being held across the county.
Next week, 1,500 children will take part in the Youth Games, at the Graham Sports Centre, Durham City, and a week later it is the turn of special school pupils, who will hold their games at the Sunnydale Sport Centre in Shildon.
Chartwells director Gerry Woods said: "These events are growing every year and we are proud to be able to be able to help the organisers produce a sporting festival which is the envy of the country.
