THE annual Durham City Summer Festival gets under way tomorrow and promises four days of free events and entertainment.
Attractions include pottery and craft fairs, living history displays, vintage cars, children's entertainment and live music.
City centre manager Chris Rawlinson said: "The festival has been running for five years and this year's event is going to be the biggest yet.
"There is plenty for everyone to do, ranging from craft stalls to a Robbie Williams tribute band."
The festival starts tomorrow with a pottery fair on Palace Green.
On Friday, Framwellgate Bridge will host live music and a craft and gift stall, from 9am, and there will be a Taste of Northumbria Market in the Market Place, from 10am.
Saturday's events include a recreation of life in an Anglo-Saxon village on Palace Green with Regia Anglorum, the historical re-enactment group.
Misericordia will perform medieval music and there will be falconry displays throughout the day.
Other events will include a craft exhibition and sale in the Town Hall with work by some of the North's best designers and music by traditional French, Hungarian and English musicians.
The day will finish with a ceilidh and barbecue at Durham City Rugby Club.
Sunday's highlights include a children's storyteller in the marquee on Palace Green, a basketball challenge with the Newcastle Eagles at the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre and a Robbie Williams tribute show in the Market Place.
Visitors can beat the traffic jams by using the park and ride service from County Hall to the city centre, costing £1 per car
