A MICRO-electronics firm that makes parts for the new Vickers tank, is gunning for work in the European export market.
Sycopel, based on the Viking industrial Estate, Jarrow, has been given the go-ahead by its US partner, Piconics Incorporated, to target the continental market.
Sycopel began producing micro-electronic parts under licence from Piconics in the 1980s for the US market only, but now it plans to target Germany and France.
As part of its research, Sycopel will join South Tyneside Council's economic development team on a trade mission, designed to create opportunities in Germany.
Tom Trusty, managing director of Sycopel, said: "We have already appointed agents in both countries to help us get started, but we are also hoping to make useful inroads during South Tyneside Council's trade mission to Germany next year."
Councillor Jim Harper, lead member for regeneration at South Tyneside council, said: "Previous trips have been very successful and we are looking to build on that. Already more firms are coming on board with us, which should make this trip the most successful yet."
