KITES of all shapes and sizes will fill the sky above Eastbourne School during the first Darlington Kite Festival later this month.
Kite fliers from all over the country will attend the event, organised by the Rotary Club with the help of Malcolm Goodman, known as the Kiteman, on Saturday, July 21, from noon to 5pm.
Mr Goodman has the largest collection of oriental kites in Europe, including his speciality, a huge dragon kite.
He also runs kite-making workshops.
The North East Kite Fliers will fly a wide variety of kites, from small Indian fighting kites to large inflatable soft kites, and will demonstrate the flying of two and four line stunt kites.
The largest kite on show will measure 30 metres.
Other attractions will include a bouncy castle, pony rides, face-painting and badge making, bear drops from kites, and a balloon race.
It is hoped that the kite festival will become an annual event. All money raised from it will go to charity
