A CONVICTED paedophile who moved north after his release from an eight-year jail sentence for raping two young girls has been found with an illicit video of himself with the youngsters.
Dean Desilva, 45, was convicted by a jury of the rape and serious sexual assault of the girls, aged 14 and 15, in 1993.
The attacks happened in Surrey, in 1991, and he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
He was released, but when officers searched his home in November, last year, they found a video of him engaging in sexual acts with the pair.
Prosecutor Anne Richardson told Newcastle Crown Court; "Under a kitchen unit they found a video depicting sexual activity involving two girls."
The video was made between June and October 1991, two years before he was convicted.
The defendant told police that the video had been returned to him two days before they searched his home and he was keeping it to be used in an appeal to clear his name.
Desilva, of Whitehouse Avenue, Burnhope, County Durham, denies taking an indecent photo and possessing an indecent video with a view to it being distributed.
The trial continues.
