FABRICATION firm RR Engineering is planning to break into new markets after buying the first of a new generation of laser cutting machinery.
RR Engineering in Scarborough is looking to expand after buying a £300,000, Japanese-made Mazak STX Mark II computer aided design machine, the first of its kind in the UK.
The sheet metal fabrication business received a £20,000 grant from Business Link North Yorkshire to allow it to make the purchase.
Roy Hendry, founding partner in the business, said: "Having used Business Link's help before, we sought their advice on financial backing for the new purchase.
"They were extremely helpful in identifying the appropriate funding and assisting us by advising on the application process.
"This involved the development of our business plan, and £20,000 towards the cost of this machinery."
RR Engineering, which was founded in 1990, employs 19 staff, carrying out a broad spectrum of work in the electronics and transport sectors.
Mr Hendry, who founded the business with partner Russ Beck, added: "The new machine is highly sophisticated, using a laser beam to cut the profile of whatever component is required.
"Anything that can be drawn on a computer aided design system, can be manufactured on the machine."
Business Link is now working with the company to develop a marketing plan, which will link into the business development plan.
Personal business advisor Carl Hopkins, who assisted the firm, said: "This company identified that it needed machinery to progress. Developing their marketing strategy will widen the company's profile across the region."
