A CHARITY evening is being organised in memory of a Redcar teenager who died from a rare form of cancer.
Leanne Mitchell was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, in May 1998. Leanne died the following September at the age of 16 after she had had extensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Now her parents are hoping to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, and the Sargent Cancer Care For Children Charity.
Mum Jackie said: "Both causes are so dear to our hearts. They supported us throughout Leanne's illness and continue to do so."
A charity evening takes place at The Regency Hotel on Coatham Road in Redcar on Friday, July 20 with doors open from 7.30pm until midnight. Tickets are £3 each and include a buffet. Entertainment will be provided by a duet called The Young Ones and The End of the Pier.
An afternoon tea event also takes place at Redcar Literary Institute tomorrow from 12.30pm until 4pm. Admission is 50p with all proceeds going to the two charities.
