A PROJECT aimed at tackling deprivation in Middlesbrough has been given a grant of £10,000 to help achieve its aims.
The Azaad Youth project combats the effects of deprivation by providing social and recreational opportunities for young people in Middlesbrough.
The charity responds to the cultural and educational needs of Asian and black minority communities, living in areas such as Westbourne and Southfields, by helping them to learn and value their culture.
The project has been running since 1993 and more than 250 young people benefit each year. It has now been given a grant of £10,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation towards general running costs.
The money will help the project to continue its work - including a wide range of recreational activities, sports trips, day visits, residentials and an annual outing to London.
Vin Kapur, project manager, said: "It is really important that young people are able to come together in a relaxed setting and celebrate their culture, while learning new skills."
