A FUTURE Wimbledon champion could be in the making at Red House School in Norton.
Nine-year-old pupil Abi Curry has just returned from a special tennis camp for talented players at the Bisham Abbey national sports centre.
Abi, of Carlton Village near Norton, first started playing tennis three years ago and was short tennis county champion in 1999 and 2000. In 1999, she moved on to playing on full-size courts and won the Tennis World beginners league trophy in both 1999 and 2000.
As well as practice sessions at her school, Abi also has two private lessons per week, two county squad sessions per week and her fitness levels are regularly monitored at Middlesbrough F C's training centre at Hurworth.
Chris Allen, head teacher at Red House school, said: "Abi has a great deal of sporting talent and I am sure that her success will continue well into the future. Who knows, we may well have a future Wimbledon champion here at Red House.
