A NORTH-EAST stunt rider will today attempt to break his world speed record for riding backwards on a motorbike.
Dave Coates, 36, of Darlington, is the world record holder, having achieved a speed of 145.6mph last year.
This afternoon, he is revving up at Elvington Airfield, near York, in a bid to break the 150mph barrier.
Mr Coates, who has to sit on the petrol tank with his controls behind him, has a new, more aerodynamic bike, supplied by Darlington-based White Bros, for his challenge.
He said: "I'm going to go flat out for the record. I'll definitely be going for 150 this time."
He is also aiming to set a second record, for two people travelling backwards, together with wife Sandra.
He said: "There isn't a record for that at the moment.
