Michael Lowther is a name to look out for following his record-breaking score for Eppleton in their Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-15 Division match against Hetton Lyons, writes MALCOLM PRATT.
The Hetton Comprehensive School 15-year old crashed ten sixes and 15 boundaries in a hurricane innings which lasted fewer than 18 overs. In one over he blasted five consecutive sixes and helped Eppleton to the massive total of 246-2.
"I started playing for the Under-13s and am now a regular with the Under-15s and in the second team squad. My innings against Hetton Lyons was by far my best performance but I have also made a number of other good scores," said Michael whose older brother David is in the Eppleton First XI.
"I want to emulate David and play alongside him in the senior team. My ambition is to join the Durham Academy and I hope that perhaps one day I may be good enough to play first class.
"All I am doing at present is enjoying the game and trying all the time to improve my technique. I take each game as it comes but obviously the one against Hetton Lyons will stay in my memory for an awful long time," said Michael.
