Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Ashok Kumar is calling for renewed action to be taken by the Government to crack down on tobacco advertising.
In a Commons Early Day Motion, signed by Dr Kumar and other MPs from across the country, he called for the Government to reconsider introducing a bill to ban all such advertising in this parliamentary year, or to give full support to a private member's bill which would aim to do the same.
Dr Kumar said: "The government has put a lot of stress on combating cancer with better research and treatment. Stopping this killer disease at source must be a priority, and I hope the government takes note of this Early Day Motion which encapsulates the feelings of many MPs across the political spectrum.
