HUNGRY rail passengers in the region have been promised an end to the days of soggy burgers if they want a quick snack on the move.
From today, GNER are throwing the old microwave railway burgers in the bin and replacing them with a tasty replacement.
Now the company is offering passengers "premium Scottish beefburgers in Italian focaccia bread", which will be available on all of its high speed trains.
The snack will be served with tomato, chutney and onion relish and cooked on a griddle as customers wait.
GNER expects to sell more than 3,000 of the burgers each week, between London, Yorkshire, the North-East and Scotland.
And the burgers will be made right here in the North-East by Kookaburra, of Peterlee, County Durham.
John Dykes, GNER's catering manager, said: "It is not soggy - it is not microwaved. It is pure Scottish beef and it is just what our passengers have been waiting for."
