ARTILLERY techniques used on one of the bloodiest battlefields of the First World War will come under the spotlight on Saturday.
Peter Hart, the Imperial War Museum's oral historian, will give a talk, Guns of Passchendaele, at the Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery, Durham City.
Mr Hart will talk about the new "bite and hold" artillery techniques which dominated the battlefields of Flanders.
The talk, which is part of the museum's War Talks series, will be illustrated with excerpts from interviews and documents to bring the horrors experienced by soldiers to life. It starts at 2pm and tickets cost £3.50 (£2.50 concessions and £1.50 for season ticket holders).
The War Talks will take a break in August and return in September when Tony Noyes, of the Western Front Association, will delve into the French Mutinies of 1917.
