A TOWN is bracing itself for 250 job losses.
US-owned electronics company, American Power Conversion, bought Advance Power last year, but now plans to close its plant in Wetherby Road, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, on October 3.
The firm is reducing its worldwide production capacity because of a severe decline in demand. Talks are under way with workers at the firm about the closure.
In February the company's chief executive warned of a decline for many information technology businesses.
The firm, which also has a plant in Hertfordshire, said Boroughbridge was not alone in facing closure.
North Yorkshire County Council spokesman Jonathon French said: "We greatly regret the loss of jobs in Boroughbridge, which are of key importance to the town and this surrounding area."
