FRENCH fever is hitting a dale's community this week as it prepares to set up twinning links with a town in Picardy.
Wolsingham, in Weardale, is celebrating Bastille Day on Saturday, and shops, cafes and pubs are joining in the spirit of entente cordial.
Last night, Caf Poco chef Alexander Lomas ran a boules team tournament at Wolsingham School and Community College.
Tonight, judges from the caf and the Black Lion pub are looking for the person who can bake the best French tart. Black Lion landlord Dave Wigham is awarding a case of French wine to the winner. Entries should be delivered to the caf by 5pm.
Prizes will be presented at a moules and frites night at the Caf Poco tomorrow. Contact Colin Lomas, on (01388) 527940, for details.
Anyone interested in joining a twinning association with Poix de Picardy should contact Vere Shuttleworth on (01388) 527238.
