A COUNCIL is likely to suffer up to £3,000 in lost revenue due to the latest closure of a bridge.
Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge had to be closed this week when an anchor bolt sheared off.
The bolt was one of four at the end of vertical cables on each of the Middlesbrough and Port Clarence sides of the River Tees.
The cost of replacing the bolt is anticipated to be £400, but the cost of installing the specially-made object is not yet known.
A council spokesman said: "Because of the nature of the bridge, the part has to be specially manufactured. It will be closed for the next two weeks."
This week's closure marks the latest in a long line for the 90-year-old bridge, which only last month had to turn people away when contractors cut through a cable.
The most common cause of closures is high winds.
The council spokesman said: "People must accept, and generally they do, that with a structure of this vintage, there will be problems. It's an important cog in the transport network."
