WHILE the First Test was the centre of attraction in Birmingham, an Indian party was also touring Britain and last week ended up playing a Yarm School XI at Norton cricket ground.
The 34- strong group from the Assam Valley School in India was visiting six UK schools and recently beat Harrow by ten wickets.
But it was a different story against a gritty Yarm outfit put together by Head of Sport Chris Thomas. Yarm sailed to 133-3 after the Indians scored 132-5 in their allotted 25 overs.
For Yarm Jay Stockham made a good 65 before retiring hurt with Stuart Robson finishing with 24 to his name. Guy Humphreys took 2 for 18 off 6 overs.
Links with the Assam Valley School were strengthened when Yarm's second master Les Fox was appointed head in 1999 and pupil visits have become a regular feature since.
