The bream once again showed for competitors drawn below Hawthorne bend during Thornaby AA's July Cup on the Lower Tees at Bowesfield.
Lower Tees Amalgamation Organiser Dave Munt enjoyed just rewards winning with 26.8.0. The Billingham angler opted for the pole at 12 metres off peg 70 netting 20 skimmer bream mainly to worm.
Dave Oxley of Darlington off the adjoining peg preferred red maggot replying with 17.11.0 from Ernie Farrow Thornaby 14.10.0.
The Ure fished badly by its usual high standards and attendances were down for the Ripon Piscatorials Simpson Cup. However competitors were anticipating some good sport with the inclusion of 'new' pegs which were opened up following the lifting of some restrictions due to foot-and-mouth.
The 'new' pegs on the match length hadn't been fished since February but hopes were dashed as big weights failed to materialise.
Ray Gilby of Ripon was first on the scoresheet recording 24.4.0. Pegged below Hewick Bridge stickfloat and maggot approach resulted in six chub and ten grayling but then a switch to maggot feeder in the closing hour added another two bonus chub.
Leatham's run-off responded to the loafer float and caster and Bentley AC's Paul Werrett caught a barbel of 8.0.0 a couple of chub to 4.0.0. and a sprinkling of grayling totalling 19.0.0.
Other backing weights: S. Newns (KL Tackle) 12.8.0. D. Wood (Leeds) 10.0.0.
There was an excellent turnout of 70 anglers on the Nidd at Cowthorpe for the Bradford No 1 AA Centenary Trophy but the river was running low and clear and weights were below par.
Barbel were the main feature for those in the frame.
Bradford's Bob Newby spent the first couple of hours without a bite but went on to win the match. Pulling peg 31 out of the bag, a fancied draw, Bob utilising stickfloat and maggot slipped his net under a trio of barbel
4.0.0 each backed by a single chub boosting his score to 16.3.0.
Fellow Bradford rod Adrian Lewis followed off peg 20 but in contrast legered caster approach delivered. Highlight of the proceedings came when Adrian netted a large perch of 2.0.0 along with two barbel for 11.3.0 from Stuart Westerman of Leeds on 10.10.0.
In the Darlington Brown Trout Annual & Novice Cups on Snipe and Willowgarth ponds three decent carp just over 7.0.0 a specimen catapulted Bob Blenkinsop into top spot.
Fishing Willowgarth's peg 4 Bob floatfishing dog biscuits stuck at it all day and eventually took 2 commons and a mirror carp totalling 21.6.0 to secure the cup.
Willowgarth proved the best venue on the day and Steve Hutchinson weighed in four carp off peg 14 but had to settle for second place as floatfishing meat accounted for 17.10.0.
The Novice cup went to 4th place Peter Bainbridge 12.15.0.
At the Oaks Sessay, Thursday's Open on Maple Lake presented a new lake record when Paul Taylor of Map Elton heaved a magnificent carp haul of 74.13.0 onto the scales.
Scene of the grand action came off peg 34 when Paul fished pellet and paste down the middle bagging carp after carp - best 6.0.0.
Strong contender Mark Calvert of Cleveland Angling Centre poled his way to 70.15.0 off peg 62 only to find he was relegated to runner-up position.
Like the winner pellet and paste stirred the carp into a feeding frenzy.
Then during Sunday's Open on Maple Lake the carp population continued to feed avidly and Thursday's new record was in great jeopardy.
16 year old Stuart Adams of Thirsk showed the rest how it was done. Stuart drew peg 62A an extra peg which hadn't been fished before and he plundered his swim on sweetcorn down and inside into the corner for an arm aching 74.4.0.
At the next peg 62 Thursday's hero Paul Taylor 'sweated it out' to finish with 47.0.0 of carp to pellet and paste.
