Songwriters from the North-East are in the spotlight in a series of showcases this month.
Organised by Generator, the region's music agency, Summer Rays is a series of gigs, workshops, seminars and other events in Newcastle, offering songwriters the chance to show off their talents to a wider audience.
Spokeswoman Sue Wilkinson said: "Generator knows there's a wealth of songwriting talent in the North-East.
"Summer Rays is designed to throw new light on some up-and-coming songwriters as well as supporting new talents."
Cryogenic's front man Jason Nixon features in a showcase on Wednesday. Also appearing is Sharron Levy, who was a busker before becoming involved in the local music scene and who now fronts Super Massive Object, and Paul Fisher, who is at the forefront of the new acoustic movement.
Another acoustic performer, Elaine Palmer, from Teesside, appears in the July 31 showcase along with singers Bex Mather and Mike Kneafsey. Both gigs take place at Newcastle Arts Centre.
The Summer Rays season also features a songwriting workshop led by Nixon. Industry experts will be offering tips during surgeries and workshops.
National record and mangement company representatives will deliver their verdict on bands and solo artists in a demo jury.
All events are free. More information is available from Generator on 0191-245 0099.
