ONE of the Victorians' favourite leisure activities is to be resurrected as part of a celebration of Saltburn's heritage.
Last year, the town hosted a competitive walking event as part of its Victorian Week and the event proved so popular that it will be repeated this year. Competitive walking was very popular in Victorian times and prizes will be on offer to people who come in the best period attire.
There will be two races - one for novices and one for experienced competitors - leaving the Marine Hotel, in Marine Parade at 1pm on Sunday, August 19.
The six-mile event is organised by the Yorkshire Race Walking Club with the support of Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council.
