CAMPAIGNERS are asking for the last remaining public toilets in an east Cleveland seaside town to be reopened.
The toilets, at the Marske end of the Stray, which connects Redcar and Marske, have been closed for about six years, but villagers say they have been promised that they will be re-opened for the past few years.
Councillor Ken Seymour, who represents the town on both Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council, said he had been campaigning for the past three years to get the Stray toilets reopened.
"They really are in a state of disrepair and it is not a very good advert for Marske especially, when local residents and Marske Town Centre Partnership have got together to put flower boxes up to try and make Marske look attractive to visitors.
"Redcar and Cleveland should be helping by providing the basic necessities."
The parish council has now written to the borough council formally asking for the toilets to be reopened.
But Councillor Sylvia Szintai, lead member for environment and infrastructure with the council, said Coun Seymour had received a letter in April stating the toilets would not be reopening.
