POLICE are calling time on under-age drinking.
Patrols have targeted known drinking haunts in parks, shopping precincts and cemeteries at South Bank, Grangetown and Eston, on Teesside, recovering dozens of bottles of alcohol over the past six weeks.
Similar operations in other parts of the Langbaurgh division have resulted in a 25 per cent drop in complaints of anti-social behaviour.
Sergeant George Reader, from the Eston policing team, said: "We believe that the young people get the alcohol from adults, who buy it on their behalf.
"It is my intention to mount further initiatives to stop this practice at various off-licences in our area."
In the latest operation, the drink was confiscated and poured away in front of the youngsters.
Letters have been sent to the parents of the children involved. Persistent bad behaviour could result in tenancy enforcements, or applications for anti-social behaviour orders.
