A JUNIOR doctor has been found hanged at a hospital where he had been working for just five months, it was revealed yesterday.
The body of Dr Robert James Harris, 24, was discovered by a fellow member of staff in his room at the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
At Malton yesterday, an inquest into his death was formally opened and adjourned to a date to be fixed. The cause of death was given as cardio-respiratory failure due to hanging.
Dr Harris, who joined the Northallerton Health Services NHS Trust in February, lived in at the hospital. He was from the Warwickshire area, but was understood to have family in Devon.
A hospital spokeswoman said: "All we can do is confirm that he was found dead in his room on Wednesday and the matter is in the hands of the coroner." Colleagues were said to be deeply shocked.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Shortly after midday on Wednesday, July 11, police were called to the doctors' residence at the Friarage Hospital where they found the body of Dr Robert James Harris. There are no suspicious circumstances.
