BRITISH paralympic gold medallist Stephen Miller opened a children's fun day at the Durham Light Infantry Museum yesterday.
Fun and games at the Children's Network Fun Day included a balloon race, dog demonstration, live music and a performance by a special needs theatre group.
Mr Miller, from Cramlington, Northumberland, who won a gold and bronze medal at the last paralympics, said: "I demonstrated some of the field events that I do and had a great day with all the children."
Organised by Durham County Council's social services department, the event was held in the grounds of the DLI Museum and County Hall. The event not only gave the county's children a chance to enjoy themselves, but also to raise awareness of the Children's Network - a register of disabled children designed to give them better service from social services.
The network has 150 children registered, but the real figure for the county is thought to be four times that.
