IT MIGHT not pull the wool over anyone's eyes, but at least it is guaranteed to be free of foot-and-mouth disease.
The life-size fabric sheep on display at Durham's botanical gardens is designed for this year's Masham Sheep Fair, in North Yorkshire.
Foot-and-mouth restrictions mean that September's show cannot have any live animals, so show organisers have appealed for as many lookalikes as possible.
Put together by the Durham Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, the fabric substitute was put on display at the botanical gardens visitors centre to encourage children to chip in with the odd piece of material.
Guild chairwoman Norma Butcher said: "It's basically a wire frame with fabric, wool and fleece to create the sheep effect. After all the problems with foot-and-mouth, we were more than happy to use our skills to help the show be a success."
