IT seems that too many heavy lunches have taken their toll on the teachers of a County Durham school.
The staff at Roseberry Comprehensive School, at Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, came last in the pupils versus teachers 4x100m relay race in the school sports yesterday.
But the staff could take some comfort from the fact that pupils taking part in the race, won by the year ten boys, raised £120 for the charities Save the Children and Ambleside Mountain Rescue.
There was further cause to celebrate when it emerged that six records were smashed.
"It was a hectic day, but a good day," said the head of PE at the school, Pam Turner. "And it was good to see a number of records going in our 30th year."
The overall winner was Ravensworth House. Top girl athlete in year seven was Kaisha Walton, and leading boy athlete was Chris Bone.
In the junior girls' section, Hayley Birss performed best, along with Stephen Miles in the boys' category.
Claire Brennan was top senior girl, and Stuart Liddle won the boys' title.
