A NORTH-EAST hospice found itself at the centre of a national charity appeal yesterday.
GMTV's annual Get Up and Give appeal was launched at the Butterwick Hospice, in Stockton, where Fiona Phillips saw work get under way to give the hospice's garden a Ground Force-style make-over.
She will return on Friday to show viewers the new-look garden being sponsored by Band Q's Stockton branch. Twelve members of staff will spend the week transforming the garden, which will be unveiled with a barbecue breakfast.
Fiona said: "I was offered the choice of which charity I wanted to use for the launch and hospices do the most wonderful work.
"Children's hospices are something else - most of us hope we will never need them but if we do, they do the most wonderful job.
"It's an unspeakable tragedy to have a child with a terminal illness, but marvellous to have the services of a place like Butterwick, which helps you come to terms with it and makes better the life they have left."
