AN inquest opened yesterday into the death of a motorist from injuries suffered in a collision, after driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway.
Kevin Wile, 45, died in Middlesbrough General Hospital's intensive care unit 12 days after breaking his neck on the A19, in County Durham.
Mr Wile, a married man with a son, is said to have been driving his Ford Fiesta southbound, into the flow of traffic on the northbound carriageway, when the collision took place with a Volkswagen Golf, on the evening of Sunday, July 1.
The housing cleaner, of The Avenue, Hetton-le-Hole, on Wearside, was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, but was transferred to Middlesbrough general, where he died last Thursday.
North Durham Coroner Andrew Tweddle adjourned inquest proceedings to allow police inquiries, after a hearing at County Hall, yesterday.
